The Wattson from the guys at DIY Kyoto is a beautifully designed monitoring tool that measures how much electricity your home is using and displays the data (in either wattage or £) through a LED display. The Wattson’s official site cuts to the chase with it’s description: “Hello. My name is Wattson. I show you how much electricity your home is using. I make energy saving easier. And I’m Gorgeous.” The Wattson monitor is made up of a display, a sensor clip and a transmitter. The sensor clip and transmitter are installed near the electricity meter, the sensor clipped to the cables running from the fusebox. The transmitter is powered by 4 AA batteries which, depending on how often you set it to transmit, can last up to 24 months. The transmitter communicates wirelessly with the display. It’s a great way of seeing the impact of turning on or off various appliances and a great way towards reducing your consumption and bills.
